PITCHING WORKSHOP Stampa E-mail

“Perfect pitch” is not just in music - everyone in the screen industry needs to pitch!

Writers need to pitch their screenplays to producers so that they will commit to getting their story on the screen.

Directors need to pitch to producers to finance their vision and to bring  talent on board.

Producers need to pitch to the financial players to bring them all together to make the vision a reality.

Each person pitches differently because good pitching is from the heart. Pitching is a conversation, storytelling, painting pictures, listening, risk taking.  In this workshop, writers, directors and producers, will learn what is expected from each of them in their different roles, when in a pitch conversation. Each participant will learn to identify 1) what sets their project apart, and 2) how to tell their story, beginning, middle and end, in less than 3 minutes using words that reveal tone and genre. Participants will learn to identify their own ‘package of pluses’ to reassure the potential partner why they are the only one to write/direct or produce this story. Participants will learn how to research and prepare.

Every participant will take part in a group workshop, followed by individual coaching and consultation in preparation for final pitches on the last day.

Workshop content

Pitcher Perfect is an interactive workshop which will:
a) identify the key components that contribute to a good pitch: the introduction, cutline, logline, synopsis, the heart, the package of pluses, the close
b) teach how to adapt a pitch to a conversational one-on-one, a chance meeting, a pitch forum presentation
c) teach how to research the audience before the meeting
d) identify and strengthen personal communications skills to reinforce the individual’s pitch in person
e) strengthen story/content
f) improve story telling skills: clarity, structure, economy, evoking visual images
g) strengthen one’s ability to hook the listener and effectively convey both the essence of the story and what credentials one is bringing to the table
h) review and improve the essentials required for a pitch one sheet
i) identify achievable goals for each kind of meeting
l) develop the skills for follow-up
m) increase one’s chances of finding a good fit for each project by successfully targeting the pitch to the right person at the right place, at the right time.

Pitcher Perfect begins with interactive workshop filled with practice, coaching and feedback, responding to the needs of each individual in a supportive and nurturing environment. Every participant needs to come with a project that they want to pitch.

On the second day of the workshop, participants will also receive an individual coaching session with Jan to further develop their Pitch.
Each Pitchee will have a maximum of 15 minutes for their "pitch conversation" with Jan, in front  the other participants. A short feedback session will follow each pitch with input on both the project and the pitch facilitated by Jan.

Each Applicant must submit the following:
1.    a project synopsis
2.    project status (e.g. in development, treatment, first draft etc.)
